What are the steering wheel idle animations, and why is my Idle RPMs tab greyed out?

Since plugin 7.2 a steering wheel can animate while no game is running, and its rev lights join in. The controls are on Daniel Newman Racing > Steering Wheels, on the Idle Theme tab, in the line headed Idle Animation just under the theme bar: a Style, a Speed and Unlit buttons. The old Static and Breathing pair has gone; if you had Breathing on, the line shows Breathe and the wheel keeps exactly the breath it had until you pick anything else.

The styles are Off, Breathe, Wave (a band sweeping across the wheel corner to corner), Ripple (a ring spreading out from the centre), Twinkle (each button at its own pace), Bounce (a column sweeping left to right and back), Orbit (a light running round the wheel clockwise), Theatre Chase (every third light, stepping round the wheel), Alternate (whole rows taking turns), Wipe (fills left to right, then clears) and Rain (a band falling top to bottom). Off is the default, so a wheel you have never changed sits lit and still exactly as before. Speed is Slow, Normal or Fast, and Normal is the default. Unlit buttons is Dimmed, a faint glow of the theme colour, or Off, fully dark until the animation reaches them.

It always keeps your colours. The animation only changes how bright each button is, so the wheel always shows the Idle Theme you chose above it. The picture of your wheel on the page is the preview. Rotaries and encoders animate by their place on the picture, and a multi position display or a lit label moves with its nearest neighbour.

The rev lights are part of it. On a wheel with rev lights, while the wheel's Idle Theme switch is on the rev lights show the wheel's idle look: lit still with the Style on Off, animated in step with the buttons on any other style, each light in the colour of the nearest button on the picture. On a wheel with side segments each side segment is one colour, the button nearest the middle of that segment, and the centre lights each take their own nearest button. Because the wheel owns them, the Idle RPMs tab on the RPM Telemetry page greys out for the wheel's own device and shows a card headed This rev bar belongs to the wheel Idle Theme, with an Open Steering Wheels button. That is not a fault: set the style and speed on the wheel page instead. Only the device running a wheel profile follows the wheel; a dash, DDU or any other RPM device beside it keeps its own RPM idle animation and its Idle RPMs tab stays live.

Idle Theme off means dark. Switch the wheel's Idle Theme off and the whole wheel is dark while you are parked, rev lights included. They do not fall back to the RPM idle animation.
